The Perfect Aero Advantage

Whether it's an Ironman, a criterium, or a road race, Aeolus wheels come in three different rim depths—90mm, 65mm, and 50mm—giving you the perfect aero advantage, no matter the competition.

Aeolus 9.0

At 90mm tall, the Aeolus 9.0 is not just the deepest, most aggressive Aeolus wheel we've ever made, it's also the fastest.

Aeolus 6.5

At 65mm tall, the Aeolus 6.5 is an extremely aerodynamically efficient wheelset that's perfectly suited for all but the windiest days.

Aeolus 5.0

At 50mm tall, the wind-cheating Aeolus 5.0 offers a big aero advantage without a big impact on handling, making it an outstanding choice for variable wind conditions.

Aeolus 5.0 ACC

At 50mm tall, the Aeolus 5.0 ACC offers the same aero performance as the full-carbon 5.0, but uses a more economical aluminum / carbon construction for an unbeatable value.

Legendary Aeolus Aerodynamics

The aerodynamic performance of any structure is greatly affected by the angle of the wind.

The aerodynamic performance of any structure is greatly affected by the angle of the wind.

While most wheel manufacturers design their wheels for optimal performance in a direct headwind, Keith Bontrager and Steve Hed jointly designed the Aeolus wheelsystem to provide the lowest drag results in the most common wind conditions: a slight cross headwind of 10-15%. The result is a family of wheels that are the ultimate choice for anyone who wants to maximize their technical advantage in triathlon, time trial, or road racing events where aerodynamic efficiency is crucial to success.

Rim Width

Rim Width

The width of Aeolus rims is optimized for the most commonly used tire widths, reducing drag where the tire meets the rim.

OCLV Carbon Rims

Making an Aeolus carbon rim starts with our proven Race XXX Lite rim, which is handmade in Waterloo, Wisconsin using our proprietary OCLV Carbon process. OCLV (Optimum Compaction, Low Void) is the world's most advanced carbon fiber production process. Optimum Compaction squeezes air pockets between carbon fibers out, resulting in extremely low voids, the source of weakness and fatigue failures. It's a patented process so exclusive that it's utilized in only one factory in the world, ours.

Aeolus Aero Rim Structure

Race XXX Lite rims are then shipped to HED's factory, where an aerodynamic carbon skin—the legendary Aeolus profile—is mated to the OCLV rim. The end result is an Aeolus wheel with:

  • Superior strength-to-weight
  • Consistent and reliable braking
  • Optimal spin, thanks to HED's counter-balancing process

The Aeolus 5.0 ACC brings Aeolus technology to a wider range of customers by co-molding a custom aluminum rim to a lightweight Rohacell foam-core carbon skin for stability and improved braking performance.
