Lance’s 2009 Trek Equinox TTX
Wheels
Lance, Levi and Alberto have been testing a new Aeolus 9.0 for timed events—a huge 90mm tall aero skin mated to our proprietary OCLV carbon rims and designed to follow the leading edge of 23c tires. At 40km, they are 10 seconds faster than our Aeolus 6.5 and, when combined with a custom Bontrager rear disc, will provide Lance with a winning wheel combination.
Tires
Lance will rely on the low rolling resistance, cornering performance and puncture resistance of Race XXX Lite tubulars. His time trial bike will roll on 23c tires as that size mated to Aeolus wheels creates a profile that reduces air drag.
Cockpit
Bontrager is working with Lance on ways to eke out every possible aerodynamic advantage in his position and equipment. This includes a custom carbon aero bar and smaller details like the Race XXX Lite aero brake levers. An 80mm x 7° Race X Lite stem provides a comfortable position while the Bontrager Grippy Tape provides a lightweight, no-slip grip on both the bullhorn and aero bar extensions.
Saddle and Post
Bontrager is helping Lance find comfort during his comeback with a prototype version of our top of the line inForm RXL saddle. The size specific curvature of the inForm saddle design ensures the perfect match to support his pelvic structure. This saddle is mounted to a 20mm offset Race XXX Lite Aero TTX post in the rear position on his Trek Equinox time trial bike.
