Lance’s 2009 Trek Madone

Wheels
Four years ago Lance rode into Paris on a pair of Bontrager wheels. Now he is back and again rolling on our arsenal of Grand Tour winning wheels. Lance's 1274 : 27.5 Madone includes a pair of custom painted Aeolus 5.0 wheels that are hand assembled in Wisconsin, USA. They mate a carbon aero skin to an OCLV carbon rim to provide the perfect blend of low weight and wind defying aerodynamics. On climbing days Lance will switch to our Race XXX Lite wheels which allow for quick acceleration due to their super smooth Swiss carbon hubs, low spoke count and feathery light, proprietary OCLV carbon rims. On training days Lance will rely on the comfortable ride of our traditionally laced Classics wheels.
Tires
Lance's wheels roll on 23c Race XXX Lite tubulars. The Astana team prefer the time-tested performance of tubulars and switched to Bontrager last season. They trust the aramid-reinforced sub-tread puncture protection to keep their riders on the road. Plus, the low rolling resistance and minimal weight provide the performance expected by a top professional team. For training days the team relies on the triple flat protection of 25c Race X Lite Hardcase tires. Lance also rides on lightweight Race X Lite AC tires with asymmetric yellow stripes that help promote the Livestrong message.
Cockpit
Lance's bike includes a 44cm Race XXX Lite handlebar and 7° 120mm Race XXX Lite Road stem. The bar's shallow drop and virtual bend provide comfortable hand positions and easy access to his SRAM Red levers. The High Compression Molded carbon construction included in both the bar and stem provide Lance with a lightweight platform that dampens road vibration while reducing flex during out-of-seat climbing. This is then topped with the comfort and no-slip grip of Bontrager's Cork Tape.
Saddle
Bontrager is helping Lance find comfort during his comeback with a prototype version of our top of the line inForm RXL saddle. The size specific curvature of the inForm saddle design ensures the perfect match to support his pelvic structure.
Hydration
Lance and the Astana team have access to a variety of Bontrager bottle cages. On most days the Race X Lite bottle cages will be mounted on Lance's bike due to their light 26 gram carbon construction and secure bottle hold.
