Making Parts for Lance
Keith Bontrager and Lance Armstrong have a bit in common. When something doesn't cut it, neither will hesitate to tell you. And that is a really good thing—especially when it comes to high end racing parts. Because, as things get lighter, there is less margin for error. Less weight means there is less material to cover design flaws, suboptimal manufacturing techniques, or material deficiencies.
Realistically, the XXX Lite product line would not even exist without Lance Armstrong. Lance made a lot of things possible. Bontrager has always been an internally motivated group, but getting a call from Lance suddenly clears the calendar. It clears the project list and creates a lot of focus. Lance has not been shy about pushing for technological advantages in weight, aerodynamics and ergonomics—all the stuff that can make a rider faster. In the back of every Bontrager designer's, engineer's and machinist's mind, is the knowledge that they are making parts for Lance.
We were a part in helping Lance take less time getting to the finish and defending his yellow jerseys. During his retirement we took that devotion to design, testing and manufacturing to help riders like Alberto Contador conquer additional Grand Tour wins. Now that Lance is back, Bontrager is again participating in his Formula One Group—his exclusive team of sponsors; Nike, Giro, Trek and Bontrager that work together to generate amazing things. Things worthy of the world's greatest cyclist.
Lance and the Astana team depend on high-performance Bontrager wheels and components to get them to the finish line ahead of everyone else. The results speak for themselves.
